Negative

In mathematics, if we subtract one from twenty, we get nineteen. In real life, however, we get a negative ten. This is because we usually see and highlight the negative part of the person, or that single mistake that he/she did. By giving so much emphasis on the negative, it becomes so easy for us to hate or dislike another person.

Take Charice Pempengco, for example. She is a very popular Filipino singer that is well-known not only here in the Philippines, but in many other countries like in the USA. Her talent made a lot of Filipinos proud of our nationality. But when there was a camera shot in Glee that made her look chubby, a lot of people pointed it out, laughed at it, and mocked the international singer.

Another example is Manny Pacquiao. Whenever he fights, almost all of us, Filipinos, watch him. Whenever he wins the fight, we take his victory as our own and highlight our Filipino pride. However, once he speaks in an interview after the fight, we laugh at his bad English.

The thing is, nobody is perfect. All of us have our own weaknesses. Thus, we cannot be good at everything. But why are we delving so much on a person's bad points? Instead of acknowledging the positive traits of the person, we search for that single flaw and make it a big issue to the point that it overpowers all the positive things about that person?

We should stop hating and start respecting. Many of us are mocking Charice because she's gaining weight. I have a few questions, then. Are we an international sensation that is respected by many people in many different countries? Did we even get a chance to sing the national anthem in front of hundreds and thousands of people? Most of us are probably only known by our friends and neighbors, and were only able to sing in front of five friends who are actually annoyed by our not-so-gifted voice.

We should highlight the positive and not the negative. Many of us are mocking Pacqiao because of his poor English. I also have a few questions here. Were we ever declared as one of the most influential people of the world or of the country? Have we done something so great that it can literally stop the crime rate of one whole country for one whole day? Lastly, who among us is a millionaire?
